Ugarit: language and religion

In this course, students who already know Hebrew or another Semitic language will learn to translate and interpret Ugaritic texts using textbooks and secondary literature.

  • Content

Ugaritic texts contain many elements that clarify the religious and cultural context against which the Old Testament was written. For example, the Baal myth tells of gods such as Baal and Asherah, who are also mentioned in the Bible. For those who have a reasonable command of Hebrew, learning Ugaritic is not difficult. The classes take place on Tuesdays.
