Codex types

Codex types can be distinguished when a larger number of manuscripts display far reaching similarities of content, liturgical function and form. A certain measure of diversity always remains because we are concerned with handwritten documents and not (mass produced) printed books. CBM concentrates on codex types that are clearly identifiable and that gained a fixed form thanks to the liturgical function the manuscripts fulfilled. As far as NT manuscripts are concerned CBM also pays attention to three relatively small groups where one can speak of a-typical codex formation, including the Apocalypse (see Portal I, B).
