Events

Members of the Centre for Early Jewish Hermeneutics are involved in the organisation of various international academic meetings devoted to the study of the Tenakh/Old Testament, its hermeneutics and exegesis, and ancient interpretations (for example in midrash, targum, or the Dead Sea Scrolls). CEJH members are currently involved in the organisation of the following events.

  • May 10-13, 2021: Jewish and Christian Perspectives conference

This conference is held every two to four years in the Netherlands or Israel and is the result of the collaboration between the Schechter Institute (Jerusalem), Bar Ilan University (Tel Aviv), the Faculty of Theology of Tilburg University, and the PThU. The theme of this conference is 'Memory'. JCP also has a series at Brill, in which the papers of the conferences, and other titles are published.

  • 12–14 July 2021: Globalisation in Ancient Judaism and Christianity

Over the past two decades, globalisation theories have come to play an increasingly prominent role in the study of the Roman world. At this international conference, organised jointly by the Protestant Theological University and the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität, we explore the use of these theories for the study of ancient Judaism and early Christianity within their Roman contexts. The conference will take place in Münster (Germany). Enquiries can be directed at Bärry Hartog.

  • Summer of 2022: International Organisation for Targum Studies

The tenth meeting of the International Organisation for Targum Studies (IOTS) will be held in the summer of 2022, at Universität Zurich, as part of the bigger conference of the International Organisation for the Study of the Old Testament (IOSOT).
