Opening of the Academic Year 2026. Festive opening of the Janskerk

31 August 2026 14:00 - 15:30

On Monday 31 August 2026, the Protestant Theological University will open the new academic year in the refurbished Janskerk in Utrecht. Together with the Janskerk congregation, we will celebrate the reopening of this special place where history, church, theology and academia come together. Following our move into the premises at Jansdam 14 last year, the PThU’s new, fully integrated single location in Utrecht is now a reality.

The Executive Board cordially invites you to attend this festive gathering.

Programme

During this event, the Minister for Long-Term Care, Youth and Sport, Dr W.R.C. (Mirjam) Sterk, will deliver the Second Willibrord Lecture. Minister Sterk studied theology at Utrecht University and completed her theological training at the University of Amsterdam. With this annual Willibrord Lecture, we focus on the unique position of theology and the church in a (post)secular society and the challenges and opportunities that this entails.

The official opening of the Janskerk as a new venue for academic theological study will be performed by the Moderator of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN), Rev. Trijnie Bouw, together with a student from the PThU.

We very much hope you will be able to join us!

Warm regards on behalf of the Executive Board,

Martha Frederiks (Principal)
Kees Boele (Chair)
