Opening academic year 2022-2023

30 August 2022

The PThU will open the academic year 2022-2023 on Tuesday August 30, 2022 in the Nicolai church in Utrecht. The central theme of this festive event is Church and theology in 2040. Keynote speaker is Rosanne Hertzberger.

Theme: Church and theology in 2040

The central theme of the opening meeting is Church and Theology in 2040. This is also the title of a project in which the PThU and the Protestant Church in the Netherlands will cooperate in the coming years. This project will be presented this afternoon by Professor Benno van den Toren on behalf of the PThU and a delegate from the service organisation of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands.

Keynote speaker

NRC columnist Rosanne Hertzberger is the keynote speaker this afternoon. In her lecture she will discuss the relevance of church and especially theology for a secular society. In her columns in NRC she regularly shows that she is not afraid to take a position. She is sharp, expresses herself clearly and does not shy away from debate.

Student speech

Tabitha van Krimpen, master's student at the PThU and Young Theologian of the Netherlands, reflects on the question of how church and theology can remain attractive to young people in 2040. She does this from the perspective of a young active churchgoer and theology student.
