In memoriam: Marie Violette Randrianarison

We are sad to inform you of the passing of Mrs Marie Violette Randrianarison, a PhD candidate and former student at the Protestant Theological University in Groningen. Marie Violette passed away on 24 June, 2020 in Antananarivo (Madagascar).

Marie Violette arrived at the PThU in 2018 to pursue a Master in Theology. She defended her thesis 'Jesus’s Embodiment of Israel as Reflected in His Use of Deut 6–8 in Matt 4:1–11 to Fight the Devil' in July 2019. After successfully obtaining her Master’s degree, Marie Violette remained attached to the PThU as a PhD candidate in New Testament studies.

We have come to know Marie Violette as a warm personality and a serious and diligent student, who enjoyed learning from others and was not afraid to form her own opinions. Through her life and work, Marie Violette always sought to serve God and the church. She will be greatly missed by her teachers and fellow students.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Marie Violette’s husband, children, family, and friends. May the God of life give them strength and comfort.
