Inaugural Lecture Louise Nelstrop: Mysticism and the Bible

30 September 2025 15:30

On 30 September 2025, Prof. Dr. Louise Nelstrop will deliver her inaugural lecture, formally accepting the Chair of Church History at the Protestant Theological University. The title of the lecture is Mysticism and the Bible: On the Importance of Church History at the Protestant Theological University.

Programme

The close relationship between mysticism and Holy Scripture is often overlooked — or even outright denied — across religious traditions. In her inaugural lecture, Louise Nelstrop will outline how mysticism has been interpreted in ways that have obscured the meaning of Scripture from academic view. She will then explore the ways in which the Bible was read in the premodern period, particularly in the context of Christian mysticism.
