Mission and vision

The institute offers a space where national and international scholars (whether via their institutions or not) in the field of ritual and liturgical studies are collectively accountable for the representation of their discipline. IRiLiS intends to clearly present the field to a broad group of scholars. The institute is nationally and internationally renowned as coordinator of ritual and liturgical studies in the Netherlands.

In order to carry out its mission, IRiLiS set itself two tasks: to organize meetings and produce publications. These tasks belong to the core business of the institute.

When organizing expert meetings, symposia, congresses, guest lectures, keynote speeches etcetera, IRiLiS strives for broad involvement: small-scale expert meetings and workshops as well as larger conferences, on both national and international levels, aimed at an academic audience as well as a broader public.
