Comenius conferences 1998-2010
The Comenius network has been holding Comenius conferences since 1998. Here are some highlights of our conferences and themes before 2010.
2010: Family: kinship that matters
- Theme: Is the extended family a kinship that matters? If so, for whom? For every individual person, or in respect to society? What theological significance has kinship, if any?
The extended family never explicitly became a theological theme. Unlike marriage, and the bringing up of children, the ‘womb’ of kinship in which a person grows and becomes a unique human being, was hardly dealt with theologically.
This conference deals with the extended family as the kinship we belong to. - Place: Theological University of Apeldoorn in Apeldoorn

2008: Christian Traditions between Catholicity and Particularity
- Theme: During the bi-annual conference of our faculties in Prague we aim at picking up the threads of our discussions at the last conference in Leiden dealing with issues of identity and authority.
Over the years these conferences have been thematically defined by the polarity of Theology and History (Theologie und Geschichte). One of the elements of this debate is the tension or even divergence between universal and particular facets of the Christian message in its various expressions. How do we in our different theological discourses and particular backgrounds find a balance between universal and particular claims in the Christian tradition in general and in our own national and confessional traditions in particular? - Place: Protestant Faculty of Theology of Charles University in Prague

2006: Heiliger Text: Die identitätsbildende Funktion klassischer Texte innerhalb einer Gemeinschaft
- Theme: Fast jede religiöse Gemeinschaft beruft sich für ihr Selbstverständnis auf heilige oder klassische Texte. Die Art des Umgangs und die identitätsbildende Funktion haben sich aber drastisch geändert. Ziel der Konferenz soll es sein, die Rolle der Texte und deren Wandlungen exemplarisch zu verdeutlichen und sie von unterschiedlichen Perspektiven her zu beleuchten. Hauptziel ist eine kritische Reflexion der Wechselwirkung zwischen Text und Gemeinschaft.
