Erasmus Mundus programme
The Centre for Religion and Heritage, University of Groningen (NL), is coordinating a new Erasmus Mundus funded MA programme to educate future heritage professionals with knowledge, skills and competences that answer the needs of a rapidly evolving heritage field.
Broader focus
Based on the Faro Convention, a broadening of focus is needed from a customary emphasis on museum displays canonising aspects of a majority culture, to encompass the crucial co-creative role of communities and minorities including their intangible heritage, performance practices, festivals, and rituals.
Expertise of religious studies
The new MA will harness the methodological expertise of religious studies as well as give religious heritage its due emphasis.
Under the leadership of Christoph Jedan, the consortium consists of universities in Groningen (coordinator), Barcelona (Spain), Nicosia (Cyprus ), Guanajuato (Mexico), Krakow (Poland), and Kalady (India) and was developed with funding from an Erasmus Mundus Design Measure (EMDM) grant obtained in 2024.
