June 24, 2021: IRTI Webinar ‘Theology, Climate Change and the Pandemic’
The worldwide outbreak of Covid-19 makes us deeply aware of human vulnerability. This concerns not only our global interconnectedness which led to the rapid worldwide spreading of the virus, but also the deep connections between the wellbeing of humans, other living creatures, and entire ecosystems. Both the pandemic and the environmental crisis ask for fundamental theological reflection on the human relationship with the earth.
Is it humanity’s destruction of biodiversity that creates the conditions for new viruses and infectious diseases such as Covid-19? The far-reaching character of what is at stake makes the pandemic, climate change and ecological sustainability deeply religious issues asking for adequate theological reflection.
This webinar will serve as an appetizer for the 2022 IRTI conference in Yogyakarta on ‘Theology Facing Climate Change’. The webinar starts with short presentations by experts in the field of ecological theology followed by Q&A. The three speakers are:
