This month The Law of God: Exploring God and Civilization has been released at Brill Publishing House. The book, edited by dr. Pieter Vos and dr. Onno Zijlstra describes the exciting and multifaceted relationship between God and civilization. This relationship is explored from systematic-theological, missiological, philosophical and ethical perspectives. The central aim of this volume is to think of both God and civilization in a more open, space-giving way.

4 juli 2014Research grant of 550.000 Euro for research project Science and Religion in French-speaking Afrika
Professor of Intercultural Theology at PThU Benno van den Toren received a research grant of the Templeton World Charity Foundation of about 550,000 Euro for the research project Science and Religion in French-speaking Africa. Purpose of the study is to help Christian academics and students in sub-Saharan French-speaking Africa, with the development of a constructive relationship between science and religion.

In what ways did Protestantism contribute to the formation of what might be called our common European mind-set or identity? And, conversely, to what extent did developments in European culture (such as processes of modernization) shape the ways in which Protestant traditions changed over time? In short: which connections, lines of influence etc. can be discerned in Protestantism’s longstanding symbiosis with European culture? These are the questions that will be discussed from all sorts of angles during the ninth Comenius Conference of Dutch/Belgian and Eastmideuropean Theological Faculties which will take place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from 25-29 June 2014.

From May 19-21 the second international conference of the Protestant Theological University (PThU) took place in Amsterdam. Approximately sixty theologians from the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Czech Republic, the United States of America, China, Indonesia, South Korea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and South Africa participated in a lively and varied programme.

Today, with the keynote lecture of Prof. Darrell Guder of Princeton Theological Seminary (U.S.) on The Challenges and Opportunities of Public Witness in the Post-Christendom United States, the third and last day of PThU’s International Conference 2014 has started. For three days theologians from the Netherlands, Germany, England, Hungary, Czech Republic, U.S.A., China, Indonesia, South Korea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and South Africa have been actively involved with the conference theme of “God in the Public Domain”.
